About Erik Grantham

For Erik Grantham, construction has never simply been a career. It’s a trade he’s spent most of his life learning—and one that helped shape the person he became.

Erik began framing houses at just 17 years old, working alongside his uncles, who had spent their lives in the framing trade. One uncle in particular played a major role in raising him, teaching Erik not only how to build houses, but lessons about hard work, responsibility and life that have stayed with him ever since.

Those early years gave Erik an education that couldn’t have come from a classroom.

Framing taught him to understand a house from the inside out.

A good framer can’t think only about the work in front of him. He has to understand what comes next—where plumbing and electrical need to run, how doors and rooms need to function, how rooflines and pitches come together, and how today’s decisions affect every trade that follows.

It also taught him that plans don’t always work exactly as they’re drawn.

That’s where experience matters.

Over the next 17 years, Erik learned to read blueprints, coordinate with other trades, anticipate problems and find practical solutions in the field. By the time he was 21 or 22 years old, he was already leading his uncle’s framing crew.

After nearly two decades of residential framing, Erik moved into industrial and commercial construction. Over approximately eight years, his experience expanded into everything from scaffold building in power and nuclear plants to trim work, cabinetry, flooring, ceiling systems and other areas of commercial construction. His ability to lead followed him there as well, and he became a foreman responsible for leading crews and getting the work done correctly.

But eventually, Erik realized he wanted to get back to where he started.

Residential construction was more personal and more rewarding. There was something different about helping someone build or improve the place they would call home.

So around 2016–2017, Erik returned to residential construction and started Grantham Builders.

The company’s first home was completed in the Dickson area—and even Erik’s son, still young at the time, helped his dad with a few things along the way. For Erik, working for himself also gave him something he values as much as his career: the flexibility to be present while his son grew up, attending the school functions, sporting events and important moments that don’t come around twice.

The homeowner of that first Grantham Builders house was returning to Dickson after years away helping care for family. The house Erik built would become her retirement home. After it was completed, she wrote to tell him how much she looked forward to spending her retirement in the beautiful home he had built.

That is still what building means to Erik today.

A house isn’t simply another project. It’s someone’s home—and often one of the largest investments they’ll ever make.

Today, Erik brings more than three decades of hands-on construction experience to every Grantham Builders project.

He understands not only how a finished home should look, but how everything behind the walls needs to come together for that home to function properly for years to come.

Sometimes that starts with a complete set of blueprints. Other times it’s a photograph, a sketch, an idea for an addition or simply a customer’s vision. One of Erik’s greatest strengths is being able to look at that vision, understand how all the pieces need to work together, and figure out how to build it correctly.

That same experience helps him see potential problems before they become expensive ones and work with the many different trades involved in bringing a project together.

Erik has lived and worked in Middle Tennessee his entire life and has called Dickson County home since building a house and moving to White Bluff in 1999.

After all those years in construction, his goal for Grantham Builders is simple.

He wants the Grantham name and logo to stand for quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Every home Grantham Builders puts its name on should be built with as much care—or more—as someone would put into building a home for themselves. Erik knows how hard people work for their money, and he believes they deserve a home they’re proud of and a builder who takes that responsibility seriously.

Build it right. Think ahead. Pay attention to the details. And never put the Grantham name on something you aren’t proud to stand behind.
